"Down Sell."
I’m having my loft boarded to create storage space. I imagined the whole loft would need to be done. Marc took a look at the loft and then asked to see inside my garage. “Why?” I asked, “That’s where all the stuff that I imagine you want to put up there is?” he replied.
He took a look and told me there was no need to do the whole area and that he’d do the amount he believed we needed for the amount of stuff we had. “I can always come back and add more space should you need it, I’ll fix a decent loft ladder and put a light up there too.”
I’ve saved a considerable sum by being down sold, he hasn’t just taken the order, and he’s considered what I need. It’s no surprise this man is booked up all the time and has worked in so many of my neighbour’s houses. He gives people what they need not what they want and he develops long term relationships with his customers because of this principle.
