Sales Training Tip from our sales training course.
"Don’t always ask a question if you think know the answer."

We are doing some sales training with a hotel group at the moment across their different sites.

At one of the hotels we have just completed the module, ‘The Dining Experience’.

I asked two of the delegates to role play a typical greeting to diners as they enter the restaurant. One of the questions asked was “Have you booked?” Have you ever been asked this question? Doesn’t it feel a little uncomfortable? If the answer is yes, you’ve booked, you have to give your name or wait to be asked that question, and even worse if the answer is ‘no’ you have to ask if you can have a table.

Here are the alternatives we came up with. Firstly if you have two people approach you at 8.00pm and there is only one couple booked in for that time, then look in the book, check the name and say, “Mr and Mrs Parker?” They’ll feel very special, and if that’s not their names they’ll tell you them and think about booking next time to receive a greeting like that. If a party approaches you and you don’t think they have booked, make an assumption they’d like to dine in the restaurant and welcome them.  After all when on the train, “Tickets Please,” is still better than, “Have you booked?!”
